| BUILDING STRONG COMMUNITIES - A NEW Y FOR THE NEW U
The rooftop terrace of YMCA Anthony Bowen was the location for a community gathering to announce plans for a new facility designed to serve more people in the fast growing Shaw/Cardozo neighborhood, affectionately called the new U in reference to the re-birth of the U St. corridor at the neighborhood's center. Several residents and political and business leaders attended the gathering, including Council member Jim Graham who gave his enthusiastic support for the YMCA Anthony Bowen project.
The renaissance YMCA Anthony Bowen will be part of a mixed use space developed by Perseus Realty featuring affordable housing and family friendly businesses. A fusion of the past, present and future, the new YMCA will honor the legacy of the first African American Y in the U.S and its long time members, while reaching out to new residents seeking a place where they can belong.
In order for YMCA Anthony Bowen to continue to be an anchor in the community, we need to hear from you.
